How We Start

Our cattery is named after “Sparkle”, my first and only dog, a beautiful Vanderbilt Samoyed, who unfortunately crossed the rainbow bridge due to acute pancreatitis. I always thank Judi for her excellent breeding work that brings Sparkle’s wonderful temperament, standard look, and health free from genetic diseases. These then become my standard of a responsible breeder, and always remind me to follow.

My interest in Maine Coon starts in 2019. I was deeply attracted by their dog-like temperament and big boning. While many favored those with extreme traits like huge muzzles, that was not the look I preferred. Luckily, I later found my dream cat, Duran of Miragecoon. And that look, becomes one of the goals of my breeding. Ever after that, I started to eagerly learn more about this breed, from visiting cat shows and communicating with reputable breeders. After two years of learning, we are more certain that Maine Coon is THE breed that we will love forever, and slowly gained the courage to plan on breeding.

As we are a start-up cattery, we will actively participate in cat shows to hear opinions from judges and other breeders, in order to make sure that we are following the right track and improve the details of our cats.

Our Breeding Focus

Other than the priority of health (see “health program”) and meeting TICA standards, our breeding would focus on cats with a combined look of sweetness and some level of wildness. We prefer squared and long muzzles, silky and dense coats, and clear tabby patterns. Size would be valued after meeting most of the preferences and free of Hip Dysplasia.

As mentioned, our breeding of color would focus on brown and silver tabby with white (classic tabby and ticked). The reason is quite straight-forward. Brown has been one of the classic colors of Maine Coon. In fact, many well-known champions are brown tabby. There are many benefits this color carries: nice boning, good texture, and clear contraction of patterns. From my perspective, to breed better maine coon, this is the color that can never be given up. Meanwhile, breeding silver can be a huge challenge. Due to the nature of the inhibitor gene (the gene that brings silver), many benefits may be limited. (cats may be smaller, and have lower fur quality, less clear pattern, and sometimes brown spots on fur.) Therefore, one of my goals is to breed high quality silver maine coon.

Since maine coon covers most of the colors (other than point, chocolate, etc.), we may introduce other colors like red and shaded in the future!
